A Crash Course in CBD
CBD (cannabidiol) is a cannabinoid (organic compound) derived from the cannabis plant.
CBD is one of the most abundant cannabinoids, second only to THC.
Unlike THC, however, CBD is non-intoxicating and will NOT get you high.
CBD works with the endocannabinoid system (ECS)—something we all have. The ECS is helps in regulating things like sleep, mood, appetite, production of hormones, and regulation of immune and nervous system responses. By regulating these functions, the ECS helps balance the body’s well-being.
CBD is not addictive. According to the World Health Organization, “In humans, CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential … To date, there is no evidence of public health-related problems associated with the use of pure CBD.”
More Knowledge = More Effectiveness
More Human Trials
While more and more studies surrounding CBD are happening, they are mostly performed in labs or on animals. In order to make FDA-approved claims, studies need to be people-based.
More Standard Effective Doses
The “right” amount of CBD for a person depends on why they are using it and how they process it. With more rigorous research from human trials, it’s hopeful that experts will be able to identify effective doses for particular conditions.
More Product Testing Regulations
The CBD industry is still largely unregulated. Unless a brand volunteers lab testing and transparent practices, it’s impossible to know the quality of a CBD product.
